About Sessions Complex
Constructed in 1710 by Captain Jonathan Hunt, Sessions House is the oldest residence on campus. It features a secret passageway historically used during colonial conflicts and reportedly as part of the Underground Railroad. Sessions Annex (built 1873) was integrated in 1977; the combined complex houses 54 students.
History & namesake
- Named for Ruth Huntington Sessions. When Capt. Jonathan Hunt raised it around 1710, it was the first Northampton house built outside the town's protective stockade. (Historic Buildings of Massachusetts)
